Sharon Alpren Ceramic Crater Vase

Handmade on the pottery wheel using high fired stoneware clay by Sharon Alpren in Kyneton, Victoria.

Sharon Alpren is a ceramicist based in the Macedon Ranges, near Melbourne, Australia, originally from the UK with a background in textiles. Sharon works with richly coloured and textured stoneware clays, using a combination of handbuilding and wheel throwing techniques, to create functional and sculptural pieces for the home. 

Sharon's words - My work is process driven. I am fascinated by the nature of ceramic materials and allow the unique characteristics of the clay, glaze minerals and fire to guide me. I am drawn to strong, simple, expressive forms and embellishments that allow the essence of the raw and earthy materials to shine through.

Glazed in matt textured bone and bronze with pinholes and craters. Functional and sculptural - images don't show how lovely the textures of this finish are in person.

BONE Narrow neck vase, approximately 21cm high and 13cm wide. 

BRONZE Cylinder vase, 11.5cm approx. at the base tapering to 10cm approx at the mouth of the vase - 21cm high.
