French Paratrooper Card

Treasured for its stunning illustrations, Italian newspaper La Domenica del Corriere (The Sunday Courier) hit the "edicola" every weekend between 1899 and 1989.  It came free with the daily newspaper, or could be purchase seperately.

This particular illustration titled 'Icarus 1950' shows French paratrooper, Leo Valentin, attempting to fly using specially made wings attached to his arms, back and legs.  After gliding for a considerable distance, he opened his parachute to land safely.
