Treat yourself to the finest natural fibre multi-purpose wash cloth ever produced!

Since the time of the Aztecs cloths have been hand woven from the agave cactus. They are long lasting, quick drying and resistant to mould, making them a superior all purpose cloth.

BODY - this cloth will gently exfoliate your skin

BATH - scrub mold and grime from the bathroom

KITCHEN - from washing vegetables to cleaning dishes

LAUNDRY - the perfect general cleaner

Sourced from a Mexican non-profit organisation that guarantees the artisans are paid fairly for their work. The purchase of this cloth makes a positive difference to the economy of the village, where the women harvest, process and weave together and share the proceeds.

A little history of Agave fibre

Since the time of the Aztecs, textiles have been woven from cactus.  This cloth is made in Mexico by a rural women's cooperative.  First the agave leaves are harvested, then pulverised.  The fibre is shredded and washed, then rubbed over another cactus to form a loose hank.

Fibre is then hand spun using a drop spindle, then finally woven using a back strap loom.  Despite production being so labour intensive, making these cloths provided a reasonable living for the village, but the introduction of cheap synthetic sponges led to the collapse of the agave market.

Once the agave cloth is wet, the individual fibres will plump up and it will shrink slightly.

We want to encourage the sale of agave cloth because:

  • Production is ecologically sustainable
  • The income makes a positive difference to the lives of the villagers
  • It is positively a better product
  • Biodegradable at the end of its working life
